Introduction : Aden Refinery previously called British Petroleum Co. (B.P.) was
established

on
1st of November, 1952 & commissioned on 29th July 1954 to satisfy the
requirements for Fuel bunker supplied to vessels in Aden harbour via 19 miles of
pipeline. The Refinery produces also Kerosene, Diesel and Mogas for local and
external markets. Four jetties were constructed to serve vessels to and from the
Refinery.
The Refinery was built in a record time not exceeding 21 months costing 45
million Sterling Pounds. Houses, clubs and hospital were also built for workers
and staff. Since the start a training program was commissioned to train local
young people how to deal with refinery operation and maintenance. On 1st May,
1977 B.P. handed over the refinery to the government.
Since that date the Refinery Co. (A.R.C.) was successful in establishing new
relations and activities with foreign companies and governments which have
always led for benefits to all parties. The company has always had a
satisfactory economical situation which enabled the construction of new
projects, rehabilitation of others and major repairs to plants and services.
